WHAT WILL A BELIEVER NOT DO?

We should never be too quick or dogmatic in asserting what a believer will not do or what doctrinal error he cannot embrace. David committed adultery and murder to cover it. Solomon worshipped idols to pacify his wives. Peter denied the Lord Jesus and forsook him. The disciples on the Emmaus Road thought the Redeemer had failed. Paul took a legal Jewish vow. He and Barnabas had a dispute over John Mark that was never mended while they lived on earth. God’s saints today are no greater or stronger than those remarkable men, — not even you or me.

HE LOVES ME

Some of our dear friends have been through some severe trials, and others are now suffering in heart and body. All of us wish to witness a good confession and maintain an attitude and conversation which will help and inspire others and glorify our Lord. But pain is pain. The loss of a dear child or mate is overwhelming, and we are still in this body of flesh. Therefore, let it be known to all that we believe and are sure that our Lord is the first cause of all things, and we bless His name and trust His word whatever the circumstances. The following words by CHARLES SPURGEON sum up our confession!

"The Christian knows no change with regard to God. He may be rich today and poor tomorrow; he may be sickly today and well tomorrow; he may be in happiness today and tomorrow be in distress; but THERE IS NO CHANGE WITH REGARD TO HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. If He loved me yesterday, He loves me today. I am neither better nor worse in God than I ever was. Let prospects be blighted, let hopes be blasted, let joy be withered, let mildews destroy everything; I HAVE LOST NOTHING OF WHAT I HAVE IN GOD!                                              Pastor Henry Mahan

GLORIOUS POSSESSION

I Corinthians 3: 23: And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

Brethren, get this amazing truth, “Ye are Christ’s!” Every chosen child of God our Father was the gift of God to Christ in eternity.  Ye are Christ’s bride. Ye are Christ’s children. Ye are Christ’s sheep. Ye are Christ’s jewels. Ye are Christ’s by electing grace, by God’s decree, by God’s predestination, by God’s adoption.  Ye are Christ’s purchased possession (1 Cor 6: 19) by the price of his precious blood and accomplished redemption.  Ye are Christ’s glory (Is 43: 7; 46: 13). Ye are Christ’s inheritance (Deut 32: 9).  Now, brethren, get this truth, “And Christ is God’s!” Christ is God’s salvation for his people.  Christ is God’s mercy and grace for his people.  Christ is God’s everlasting covenant to his people. Christ is God’s express image and glory revealed. Christ is God’s delight!

Therefore, everything about you and about your brothers and sisters in Christ belongs to God (1 Cor 6:19).  Here is our security and the end of all strife—the end of glorying in men--
ye are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.”  (1 Jn 4: 17)  As Christ is God’s beloved let us remember that brother overtaken in a fault is God’s beloved son in Christ.  Is Christ the righteousness of God? Let us remember that offensive sister is the righteousness of God in Christ.  Is Christ raised to newness of life accepted and eternally secure? Let us remember that offensive brother is just as new, accepted and eternally secure in Christ. Christ declared that whatever we do to his brethren we do unto him because all our brethren are one with Christ (Mt 25:40) And Christ declared if we dishonor Christ then we dishonor the Father (Jn 5: 25)  Our text shows us the reason “Ye are Christ’s and Christ’s is God’s.”

As Paul declares “Therefore let no man glory in men.” Let us not glory after the appearance, condemn after the appearance, judge after the hearing of the ear but let us use spiritual discernment. Let us glory in things as they really are, “For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s” (1 Cor 3:21-23).

CHRIST OUR CREATOR

Psalm 24: 1: The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2: For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

The earth is not mine or yours. We buy, sell, and claim property but in truth God is the sovereign owner of the universe and all things in it (Deut 10:14).   Imagine how foolish to offer God something out of this earth in attempt to make God accept us.  Everything is his in the first place. He said,  “If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof” (Ps 50:12).

When we read that God created all things, remember, this God our Creator is Christ the Son of God—“all things were created by him and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist” (Col 1: 15-17).  When our Redeemer pointed to seed to illustrate how he came into the earth, was broken and from him came life in abundance, it was Christ who created that seed to illustrate his finished work of redemption.  Likewise, our Redeemer created water.  After thousands of years he has never made any new water.  The rivers constantly flow to the ocean, evaporate into the atmosphere, and fall as rain or snow.  How is there still unpolluted water?  Christ our Creator upholds all things by the word of his power (Heb 1:3; Rev 4:11) to show us a picture of sovereign salvation by the word, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isa 55:10-11)

Still, God our Savior did not create this heaven and earth to last forever! This creation was founded upon Christ’s covenant promise to use this earth to declare God’s glory in putting away the sins of God’s elect people. This creation was founded to manifest the Power and Wisdom of God in creating his people anew in spirit and in truth by the blood of Christ and the Spirit of God. This creation was founded upon the ordination that Christ would create a new heavens and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness (2 Pet 3:13; Rev 21: 1-8).  Imagine living in the new heavens and new earth where everyone is righteous and there is no sin!  That is the world in which every departed saint now dwells and where every sanctified child of God shall one day dwell by the grace of God and the blood of Christ.
