Proverbs 15: 10: Correction is grievous unto him
that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

JC
Philpot said, “He means to conform you to the image of His Son in glory. Therefore He now conforms you to the image of
His Son in suffering.”
Thomas
Brooks, “God’s house of correction is His school of instruction.”

God hears prayer even if it be silent. Better to
pray from the heart with no audible words than with audible words and no
heart. Our confidence in prayer is Christ our great High Priest.

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting
of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.” (1 Corinthians 15:55-56) Why should believers fear death? Christ has
put away their sin. Christ has fulfilled the law on their behalf. Both the
sting of death and its strength are defeated. For believers, death is the last
stop on their way to complete perfection. (Romans 8:29-30)

Salvation By Grace Alone
“But we
believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even
as they” Acts 15:11.
When that first Bible Conference at Jerusalem was assembled and the vital
question about salvation was discussed Peter stood up and declared that
salvation is by the grace of God alone not by the deeds of the law (Gal. 2:21;
1Peter 5:10). There are at least four things
we know the scriptures plainly declare about the grace of God.
1). Grace is eternal. Grace
was planned and purposed in Christ before it was imparted and applied to our
heart (2 Tim. 1:9; Heb. 13:20; Rev. 13:8).
2). Grace is free. No man ever
purchased the grace of God. He bought us with His own blood and justified us
with His grace alone (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18; Rom. 3:24).
3). Grace is sovereign. God gives grace to
whom He pleases. Grace is the free and sovereign favor of God freely given to
underserving, ill-deserving and hell deserving sinners (Rom. 5:19-21; Rom. 9:12-16)
4). Grace is always
because of and in Christ. We only believe through the grace of the
Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:16-17; Acts 18:27; Eph. 1:3-7; 2 Cor. 8:9).
Thank God for His grace.
Every believer can say with Paul, “I am
what I am by His grace.” Tom Harding, pastor of Zebulon Grace Church, Pikeville, KY

“The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorous; for he oft refreshed
me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But when he was in Rome, he sought me out
very diligently, and found me” (2 Tim 1: 16-17).
Due to his imprisonment all in Asia turned away from Paul, including two
known preachers. But Christ’s love
constrained Onesiphorous. He went to
great lengths to seek out Paul—he knew how Christ had sought him out while in the
prison of sin. He was not ashamed of
Paul’s chain—he knew that though he was a shameful sinner, Christ was not
ashamed to call him brother. He
refreshed Paul often—he knew how Christ refreshed him continually. This was Christ showing Paul (and us) through
Onesiphorous that Christ’s love for us never wavers therefore He sticks closer
than a brother.

THE
MESSAGE
“And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt…And
they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them:…” (Gen 45: 26-27)
As the
children of Israel reported to Jacob that Joseph was alive and governor over
Egypt, the message we preach is that Christ is risen and reigning over all. We preach and rejoice in the message that
Christ laid down his life for his people and put away our sin (Heb 9: 26). Our confidence that Christ really did put
away the sin of all his people is that Christ is yet alive. His being raised again from the dead declares
that God is satisfied toward all his people in Christ, “Who was delivered for
our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” (Rom 4: 25) God our Father raised our Redeemer to
be Governor, not only over Egypt, but over heaven and earth as Head over all
things to the church, which is Christ’s body and fullness (Is 9: 6-7).
Brethren,
because Christ lives we live! Have you
ever taken out the chapter division between Ephesians 1 and 2 so as to make
this connection?
Ephesians 1: 20…he raised him from the dead,
and set him at his own right hand in
the heavenly places, 21: Far above
all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is
named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22: And hath
put all things under his feet, and
gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23: Which is his
body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. 2: 1: And you hath he quickened, who were dead in
trespasses and sins;
This
is our gospel. Christ yet Lives! He is the Governor over All! All his blood-bought
people are, and shall, be quickened to life in and by him. Therefore we preach the words Christ commands
us to preach—“And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said
unto them:…”
