Proverbs 11: 18: The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

Next Sunday, June 10, Brother Scott Keller is scheduled to bring both messages.  I am scheduled to preach at Sovereign Grace Chapel in Crow, WV with Pastor Mike Walker.  Walter Pendleton is the host pastor.

Our 11th Annual Summer Meeting is scheduled July 20-22. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”  (2 Cor. 13:5)

One man described False or Counterfeit faith in this way:

1. It is never broken over its own sin.

2. It never hungers and thirsts for the blood and righteousness of Christ.

3. It never sees itself to be nothing.

4. It never bows to the absolute sovereignty of the Lord Jesus Christ.

True faith says:

1. “Oh wretched man that I am!”  (Romans 7:24)

2. “Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.”  (Psalm 51:7)

3. “I know nothing by myself;”  (1 Corinthians 4:4)

4. “I know whom I have believed.”  (2 Timothy 1:12)

Many hear the gospel carelessly, caring nothing for their souls, the glory of God, or the will of God.  Others hear the preached Word critically, only listening for the preacher to say something they can differ with and criticize. Multitudes hear the preaching of the gospel selectively, hearing only what they want to hear.  Saved sinners hear the Word profitably, saying as they hear, “Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth Thee.”  -- Pastor Don Fortner

“In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.” (Ro 2:16)

There is a day coming when you shall face God.  Think about that! (Rom 2: 5-16) God says if you go through life refusing to repent from your sin and vain works and believe on Christ then you are treasuring up wrath against that day of God’s wrath.  It means you are heaping up God’s wrath against yourself like a man saves up money.  In that day the righteous judgment of God shall be revealed. God will deal justly with every man by rendering to every man exactly according to his deeds. Not only the outward deeds that are known, but God shall judge the secrets of men, even the secrets sins of the heart.  And get this, the judge shall be the very one you called a liar, the Righteous Lord, Jesus Christ. (Rom 2: 5-6)

The judgment of God is nothing fearful to the believer. To them who patiently continue doing that which is good, that is, who patiently continue in faith, trusting Christ alone to be all their salvation before God, seeking the glory, honor and immortality that is by Christ alone, God shall give eternal life.  All who believe on Christ are free from sin and condemnation. We have fulfilled the law and suffered its just penalty by the obedience and death of Jesus Christ our Head and Substitute. (Rom 5:19-21) But if you have never believed on Christ then you have no reason to do anything but fear the righteous judgment of God.  God promises to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness, God shall pour out his indignation and wrath.  There will be anguish and tribulation like you have never imagined. You may think it wise to ignore my gospel and go through life never giving a thought to eternal matters but remember you shall face God soon! And do not imagine that God will show partiality based on who you are or what you have done. God is no respecter of persons.  Men look on the outward appearance. So they imagine they will please God by an outward show of goodness and righteousness, religious deeds and morality. But God's judgments are true and righteous. God looks on the heart, not on the outward appearance. (Rom 2: 28-29)

Therefore, sinner, seek Christ today! Except you trust the Lord Jesus Christ, you shall be forever damned. It will be just. You will have earned it! But trust Christ and you shall be forever saved. It will be just because it is what Christ earned for his people. God give you grace to trust him!

The word of God is concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Rom 1: 1-4) The whole Bible is concerning God’s glory and righteousness manifest in the Lord Jesus Christ in the salvation of his people. (Luke 24: 27, 44)

The Old Testament scriptures declare Christ is coming and will succeed.  God told the devil that in the garden, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Gen 3: 15) The first blood shed after the fall declared Christ and the work Christ would accomplish, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” (Ge 3:21) Christ was typified in Abel’s lamb by whose blood Abel found acceptance with God. Christ is the Prophet like unto Moses. He is typified in the brazen serpent to whom the people looked and lived.  Christ is the smitten Rock from whose stripes the water of life flows freely to his people. He is the Passover Lamb whose blood God sees and passes over his people.  In all the ceremonies it is Christ glorified: in the Temple, the Lamb, the Blood, the Altar, the High Priest, and the Mercy Seat. The prophecies are all written concerning him and what he would fulfill. The Psalms are all written of him.

The New Testament begins declaring Christ in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We behold Christ made of a woman, made under the law. In Christ Jesus we behold God in human flesh in the manger, growing up and living amongst his people. We behold him calling his apostles and establishing his church. We behold him working physical miracles which picture the spiritual miracles he works in his people. Then we behold him laying down his life for his sheep on the cross, obtaining eternal redemption for us. Then the message of the epistles is that he is now reigning from God’s right hand in his church, calling out his lost sheep through the gospel and he shall soon return. Together with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, it is Christ sending his preachers; it is Christ preaching in the gospel; it is Christ calling out his people; it is Christ growing and preserving his people; it is Christ who will return when the last lost sheep is called out!

Concerning all sinners in Adam, the message of the book is, “All flesh is grass.” Christ said, “The flesh profits nothing.”  We are law-breakers by Adam and by our own transgressions. Our nature is unholy by Adam’s seed. Our flesh will not and cannot seek God; our flesh cannot understand the word of God or receive the good news therein. So when we read scripture, hear it putting you and me in the dust.  Do not read it thinking God is telling us how we can have life by our hand. He is not.

Concerning God in Christ the message of the book is, “Thy God reigneth.” In eternity, God chose a people, giving the whole work of their salvation into the hands of his Son. Each of God’s elect enter the world sinners so we had to have our sin put away by Christ. We had to be made righteousness for God to be just and justifier and for God to receive us and this was by Christ. God gave the whole work to Christ to accomplish. The message of the book is “[Christ] shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.” (Is 42: 4)
