Unbelief
Acts 6:11-14

We have an example here of what unbelief does.  It claims to love God and his law.  Yet, it breaks every law of God in defense of the law.  God's law states that there must be two or three witnesses to condemn a man.  So these folks provided witnesses.  The law states that blasphemy against God is punished by death.  So they charged Stephen with blasphemy.  But in attempting to defend the law, they broke them all by bearing false witness against Stephen. That is exactly what happens when a person refuses to believe God's word—we bear false witness against God, his Christ, his messengers, his people and his gospel—thus by attempting to defend the law as our means of wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption we break the whole law of God. The only way for a vile sinner to uphold the whole law of God is by believing on Christ.  (Mat 5:17,18; Rom 3:31; 10:4; I Cor 1:30, 31.)
