PURPOSE OF GOD IN ELECTION
Acts 3: 25, 26
Sovereign election glorifies God the Triune God in his Son because it manifests that the salvation of Christ's redeemed has always been established in the faith which God's chosen Son Jesus has toward the Father and not according to the good or evil of those chosen in Christ. Those to whom Peter spoke were indeed the natural descendants of the prophets. Yet, like their fathers, they had rejected and even killed God's messengers. They were, indeed, the sons of Abraham according to natural genealogy. Still, they killed the Holy and Just One through whom God promised Abraham's salvation. Yet, because the one offering of Christ Jesus the Lord had perfected every one of God's elect forever, and knowing God would not allow one to perish for whom his Son died, in spite of the blood of the Author of life still fresh on their hands, Peter declares the only gospel whereby God would call those elect out, saying, "Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities." Not until we truly find ourselves at the feet of Christ will we discover that the purpose of God in election, like the whole purpose of God, is not according to our good or evil, but to glorify his Son Jesus.
