A WORD TO
BELIEVING WIVES AND UNBELIEVING HUSBANDS
1 Peter 3: 1:
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any
obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of
the wives; 2: While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with
fear. 3: Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting
the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4: But let it
be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even
the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of
great price.
If you are a wife who the Lord has saved after marrying an
unbelieving husband then this is God’s word for you. So long as he does not
prevent you from worshipping Christ or abandon you, which includes physical
abuse, then be in subjection to him. Show him your reverence and obedience to
Christ your Husband by your meek and quiet spirit toward him. It may be that
the Lord will use you to win him to come with you to hear the gospel preached.
If you are an
unbelieving husband married to a wife who rests in Christ will you let me tell
you what she wants from you above everything else? She wants you to simply come hear the
preaching of the gospel that glorifies Christ alone. She does not want you to
make a false profession. She wants you to look into scriptures with her to see
that this gospel is the very word of God. She wants you, by God’s grace, to
know the comfort only Christ can give when he makes his child know that their
warfare is accomplished. She wants your marriage to be made sweeter with true
meaning by you both having an interest in the triumphant Lord Jesus
Christ. I know this because it is what
every believer wants for those they love.
