To say that Christ is the gospel, is not an over simplification.  To say anything else is to be removed from the simplicity that is in Christ—

A pastor is a man called, gifted, and sent of God to preach the gospel, one who does the work of an evangelist, feeds the Church of God with knowledge of the Scriptures, understanding the needs of immortal souls and the needs of the hour. His work is done in his study, on his knees before God, and in the pulpit, not in going door to door, as a busybody in other men's matters.

                                                                            Pastor Don Fortner

THE GOSPEL—THE POWER OF GOD

1 Corinthians 1: 18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

“The preaching of the cross” encompasses the declaration of the whole of the person and work of our Redeemer. Therefore, the center, sum, and substance of the Gospel message is the Lord Jesus Christ. There can be no credibility given to any message that has anything or person, other than Christ, as its center as a Gospel message. Likewise, neither can those who preach any other message than “Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (1 Cor 2:2) be correctly identified as Gospel preachers. “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Gal 1:8)

The power of God is manifested by his Spirit to his people by a two-fold means in their salvation. THE WORD OF GOD—“For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance.” (1 Thes 1:5) THE PREACHING OF IT—“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Cor 1:21) There can be (and is) an abundance of GOOD THINGS being said, and a lot of WORTHY CAUSES being promoted in the world of Christendom. Nevertheless, it is only the message of “Jesus Christ and him Crucified” that God uses to reveal his glory and power in the salvation of poor sinners. To THEM, this singular message preached in simplicity is utter foolishness. “BUT UNTO US WHICH ARE SAVED it is the power of God!”—Pastor Tommy Robbins

Isaiah 60: 15; Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. 16: Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

THE JUST SAVIOR AND HIS INNOCENT

Psalm 15: 5:…Nor taketh reward against the innocent.

Who shall dwell in God’s holy mountain?  Christ Jesus who will not take reward against the innocent. The innocent are those made innocent by Christ who “once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.” (1 Pet 3: 18) Do you suppose a God so just will dare take a bribe allowing any to lay charge to you, believer, who God has made innocent through the blood of his Son? No way! “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Rom 8: 33-34)

Can any reward make God allow even one to perish in unbelief for whom Christ died? “That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Gen 18: 25) As long as God has but one justified Lot left in this world of Sodom and Gomorrah who he has made innocent by his own blood then the just Judge of heaven and earth will not destroy the righteous with the wicked. By the “word of Christ’s power”, the word of Christ’s “testament in his blood”, this world is held in place until every last redeemed child is brought to faith in Christ for “without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Heb 1: 3; Lu 22: 20; Heb 11: 6) “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Therefore, “account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation.” (2 Pet 3: 9, 15)

Men will try to frighten you with their objections. But any objection men make to the gospel of God ought to be at least as full of wisdom as God’s gospel.  I assure you that is impossible!  Therefore, believer, let no man frighten you with vain words. Our just Judge shall see to it that his innocents are brought to him without one trace of the defilement of our sins. Every child of grace shall soon abide in the pristine holy mountain of our just Judge and Savior forevermore, singing, “To God be the glory!”
