Title: No Lie is of the Truth

The teaching of the Bible is the one area in life where people think truth is relative?  The one area people think you can hear lies yet believe the truth.  If they had a lot of money and you claimed it to be yours then truth would be truth.  But how can men hear of a weak jesus who cannot save without a sinner’s consent and know the true Sovereign Savior of scripture “who doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay his hand or say unto him what does thou?” God says you cannot not.

Romans 10: 13: How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?

Throughout scripture, God the Father is repeatedly called “the God of truth.”

Deuteronomy 32: 4: He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Exodus 34:6: And the LORD passed by before [Moses], and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth…

God the Father does not have to lie, God can bring to pass what he promises.

Numbers 23:19: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Titus 1: 2:…God, that cannot lie…

Proverbs 6: 16: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him. 17: A proud look, a lying tongue…

The Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, is himself the Truth.

John 14: 6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 1: 14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Spirit of God is “the Spirit of truth.”  The church of God is the pillar and ground of the truth. (1 Tim 3:15).  The God of Truth says “no lie is of the truth.”

Proverbs 12:22: Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Truth is not relative—the bible declares the only truth there is from the only God of truth there is.

Our subject is “No Lie is of the Truth.”

THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES US KNOW

1 John 2: 20: But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.  21: I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth…

The Holy Spirit makes his people know the truth and makes us know that no lie is of the truth.  John says, “Ye know [the truth], and that no lie is of the truth.”

The truth can only be known by God revealing it.  The God of truth who must reveal the truth to us only saves through the truth.

Psalm 33:4: For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

No lie is of Truth!” He purposed from eternity who he would save and purposed that he would save us through the belief of the truth.

2 Thessalonians 2: 13:…God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So no lying, false preacher is of God the Truth! The God of Truth sends the gospel in truth.

Jeremiah 3: 15: I will give you pastors after my own heart which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

1Corinthians 12:3: Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Jeremiah 23: 32: Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.

The God of Truth regenerates his people with the word of truth.

James 1: 18: Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth.

The God of Truth sanctifies his child through the truth. Christ said,

John 17: 17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The God of Truth brings his child to know and believe the truth as it is in Christ

John 16: 13: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14: He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The word says we only know the truth when we have “learned Christ; [by] hear[ing] him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus” (Eph 4: 20-21) “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:” (Eph 1: 13) So those born of God and taught of God are called by truth and believe the truth of the gospel of Christ.  We believe God when he declares we are sinners incapable of working out a righteousness, incapable of giving ourselves life, faith and repentance.  We believe we must be born of the Holy Spirit and drawn to the Lord Jesus Christ who himself is the one way we are made righteous and holy and accepted of God and we believe on him.  We no longer use our experiences to determine if doctrine is true—we use only the word of God.  Sometimes a lie is mixed with an element of truth so that it is difficult to discern.  But remember: nothing false, no deception, no compromise, no half-gospel, is truth.  Now, by the Spirit of truth, we have discernment to know “No lie is of THE TRUTH!”

THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACHES US WHO ARE LIARS

1 John 2: 22: Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.  23: Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father:…

We know that no lie is of the truth because the Holy Spirit teaches us that liars are those who deny that Jesus is the Christ.  Before God and before his believing people everything is determined by “What think ye of Christ!”

Some then, some now, deny that the Lord Jesus is God, the Son of God one with the Father.  Doing so they deny he is the true Christ and deny the Father.  Christ said, “I and my Father are one.” (Jn 10: 30)  Jesus is God with us—the fullness of the Godhead bodily, the express image of God.

Others deny he is the Christ by denying what he accomplished. Christ Jesus did not die for all sinners without exception to only make salvation available.  He said, “I lay down my life for the sheep.”  And he told some, “Ye believe not because ye are not my sheep.”  In his high priestly prayer he said “I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me;” (Jn 17: 9) Would he die for men he would not pray for?  God said, “Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated.  He did not die for those he hated, only those he loved.  Truth is not relative: Christ laying down his life for the sheep means he did not lay down his life for the goats!  That is the truth!  Christ died only for the elect and accomplished their salvation as the scriptures declare.

Matthew 1:21: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Daniel 9:24: Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy

Christ Jesus manifest the righteousness of God by upholding and honoring the law by his obedience. Through Christ our Head and Substitute, God is just and the Justifier of all who believe on him because

Psalm 85:10: Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Proverbs 16:6: By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Where is he now?  The Lord Jesus Christ is seated at God’s right hand with all power, sending his preachers with his truth, calling out those he redeemed by the Holy Spirit of truth and he shall lose none!

Anyone who compromises, denies or takes away any aspect of his deity, humanity, office, work, or glory denies Christ and is a liar and an antichrist!  “No lie is of the truth!” Christ said liars are of the devil, there is no truth in him, he is the father of lies from the beginning;

THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES US CONTINUE IN THE TRUTH

1 John 2: 24: Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 25: And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life…27: But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Holy Spirit makes us receive the truth in the beginning and makes us continue in the truth that we received from the beginning.

When is our beginning?  The apostle’s Paul’s beginning was not when he was a Pharisee, promoting lies, trusting his works and persecuting God’s people.  Paul’s beginning was when Christ called him in truth on the road to Damascus.  The believer’s beginning is not when he is hearing lies and worshipping his will and his works—but when the Spirit has sent the truth of the gospel and made him hear it and repent from lies to worship Christ in truth.

2 Timothy 1:13: Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

When the apostle John says hold to that which ye heard from the beginning he means WHEN HE PREACHED THE TRUTH TO THEM.

John 4:23: But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth

Believer, continue in the truth which you heard from the beginning, which gave us a new heart and brought us to faith in Christ in spirit and in truth.

Proverbs 3: 3: Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Christ has promised us eternal life so he keep us in the truth “as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” So God’s true church is the city of truth.

Zechariah 8: 3: Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth;…8:…they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness

Concerning heaven, “there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that…maketh a lie.” (Rev 21: 27) “Without are them that loveth and maketh a lie.”  The thing that distinguishes true faith from delusion is faith believes the truth of God while delusion believes Satan's lies, “they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.  It is a rare and precious thing to have the gospel preached in truth.  Let us thank God and continue worshipping him in the truth!

Amen!
