SUNDAY’S READING IN PROVERBS

Proverbs 11: 16: A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

HUSBANDS LOVE YOUR WIVES

Ephesians 5: 25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

When husbands are taught how to be head of our wives, even as Christ is Head of the church, it is not as a tyrant ruling with harsh demands, but by love as Christ loved the church.

The love of God is in Christ Jesus alone. (Rom 8: 39) Christ’s church—every elect child in particular—is Christ’s own body, “the fullness of him”, “members of his body of his flesh and of his bones.” (Eph 1: 22; 5: 30-32; Ro 12: 4-5) When God made the first wife for the first man, God patterned their union after Christ and his church. (Is 54: 5) God gave us a spiritual lesson in that creation. He made every beast, even the first man, out of the ground. (Gen 2: 19) By our first birth we are of Adam, the cursed ground. But showing that Christ’s bride is made of Christ and is one with Christ, God made woman out of the man. (Gen 2: 21-24) The Holy Spirit declares the reason a husband shall leave father and mother and be joined unto his wife is patterned after the inseparable oneness between Christ and his church. (Eph 5: 30-33) Christ and his church are one flesh. Therefore, Christ loves each member, nourishing and cherishing his church, as an extension of himself, his own body, his own flesh and his own bones.

Thus a husband is taught how to be head of his wife—by loving her as his own body—“Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”

SATAN’S MASTER PLAN

“But I fear; lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ”(2 Cor. 11:3).

Satan is the most subtle creature in the world; he has had 6000 years of experience in deceiving, beguiling, and destroying men’s souls. Only God knows more about man than Satan, and no man can stand toe to toe with the devil and win. Satan’s master plan is to make men religious without knowing and being united to Christ by faith. If he does not succeed in getting a man religious without Christ, he will try to draw him away from the simplicity, which is in Christ, and Him crucified. He has also succeeded if he can get our minds off Christ and on faults and failures of those in the church, and causes these things to hinder us in such a way that we leave off Christ and turn from Him and his church because all we can see is the blemishes of those we worship with. How happy Satan is when lie turns one from the simplicity, which is in Christ. Pastor Don Bell

Regeneration is not a change of the old nature, but the introduction of a new nature. It is the implanting of the nature or life of the second Adam by the operation of the Holy Ghost, founded upon the accomplished redemption of the Lord Jesus and in full keeping with the sovereign will of God. Pastor Scott Richardson

BE PATIENT

This world thinks us foolish because our confidence is in the Lord (Psalm 14:1). We are not confident in ourselves, our skills and certainly not our own righteousness. We are taught of God and his Spirit directs our spirit to look to him for all our righteousness and to provide all our need. “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22). This righteousness is found in Christ Jesus alone (Romans 3:19-26).

We look to Christ because the Father looks to Christ for the righteousness of his people. “And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him” (Hebrews 1:6). For this cause we preach Jesus Christ and him crucified (1 Cor 1:23, 2:2).

The world doesn’t understand the things we believe concerning Christ and the righteousness of God. It brings out their enmity and they speak against the truth “Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his refuge” (Psalm 14:6) They can’t understand these things because they hate God and are natural born enemies of God and God’s people (Romans 8:7-8). And such were we until God had mercy and delivered us from this natural death by Christ. The child of God ceases to be ashamed and prays by the same spirit given to Paul “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12). Be patient brethren!  Pastor Eric Lutter

FOR BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Many quote this blessed verse without really giving it thorough consideration. Here are at least six things that should always cause us to rejoice in God’s free and sovereign grace in Christ.

  1. GRACE has been defined as “unmerited favor.” If grace is unmerited then, none can claim it as a right.

  1. If GRACE is “unearned and undeserved,” then, none are entitled to it.

  1. If GRACE is a “gift” then, none can demand it.

  1. If GRACE is a “free gift” then, God has the right to bestow it upon whom He will. (Don’t you give gifts to who you want to?)

  1. If salvation is by GRACE then, the very chief of sinners, the worst of the worst, is not beyond the reach of Divine mercy.

  1. Because salvation is by GRACE, boasting is excluded and God gets all the glory.

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Ephesians 1:6                                                             Pastor David Eddmenson

“It Is Finished”, (John 19:30)

Years ago, someone asked me how long it took me to finish a painting. My answer was this, “You never finish a painting…you just come to a stopping point.” Concerning all efforts on man’s part, nothing can truly be said to be finished. There is always something found, even with our most careful efforts that can be done to improve our labor.

But concerning the work of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary…His death to satisfy the justice of God for an everlastingly loved people…His death to put away the guilt of His bride by the shedding of His blood for her…HE said…“It is finished.” By His declaration, we know that the debt and guilt of our sins has truly been paid and put away in His precious blood. According to His word, the sins of God’s chosen people shall never be brought up before God or punished again…This we know because the Father accepted His sacrifice on behalf of His sheep and proved His acceptance by raising Him from the dead.    Pastor Marvin Stalnaker
