SUNDAY’S READING IN PROVERBS

Proverbs 10: 13: In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

?-----------------------------?

Friday morning I read this quote by Martin Luther in Pastor David Eddmenson’s bulletin. I thought it fit with our message Thursday night from Psalm 31 on committing all into Christ’s hand as Christ committed all into God the Father’s hand.  Luther said, “I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that, I still possess.”

GOD HATES A FALSE BALANCE

“A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.” (Proverbs 11:1)

When Christ died on Calvary’s tree, God did not punish an innocent man by punishing Christ for the sins of someone else.  That would have been a false balance of justice and a false balance is an abomination to God.  Christ died in absolute justice.  He received a just weight that is the delight of His Father.  The Father made Christ sin for His people (II Cor. 5:23) and then put Him to death in justice.  Now God’s justice is satisfied for all of the sin of His elect. The salvation of those people is sure and certain.  God will never let anyone for whom Christ died perish.  It would be unjust to damn someone if Christ already died for their sin.  That would be a false balance that God hates.  The Lord will bring all of His elect to repentance and faith.  Their salvation does not depend on them making a decision.  God will give them eternal life because Christ earned it for them.  The salvation of God’s elect is sure and certain because God is a just God who delights in a just weight. Pastor Frank Tate

WHICH IS THE GREAT COMMANDMENT?

There has never been a single moment in my life that I have loved the Lord, as He ought to be loved. However, at the same time, there has never been a single moment in time when Christ did not love the Lord His God, His Father, with all His heart, soul, mind and strength.

In Christ, and with Him as my Substitute, I have kept the greatest commandment of all. Matter of fact, in Christ, I have kept “every commandment of God” perfectly and completely. My salvation has nothing to do with my works, my faithfulness, or my righteousness. My salvation has everything to do with His! Pastor David Eddmenson

Here is the fundamental difference between the man of faith and the man of unbelief. The unbeliever is "of the world", judges everything by worldly standards, views life from the standpoint of time and sense, and weighs everything in the balances of his own carnal making. But the man of faith brings in God, looks at everything from His standpoint, estimates values by spiritual standards, and views life in the light of eternity. Doing this, his heart is calm in the midst of the storm. Doing this, he "rejoices in the hope and glory of God".    A.W Pink (1886-1952)

FAITH

Hebrews 11: 1: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

It is God’s grace to make his child walk by faith not by sight. While the unbelieving trusts in earthly foundations which fleshly senses deceptively perceive to be substantial and lasting, faith is the substance of things hoped because it rests in the immoveable, eternal foundation Christ Jesus the Rock.  While the unbelieving seeks evidences in signs which fleshly eyes can see, which evidences shall be dissolved; faith is the evidence of things not seen because it believes on Christ whose new creation, though unseen with natural eye, is immovably secure and eternally permanent by his righteousness and holiness.

The worst thing a man can do is put himself into the ministry and be found speaking lies in God’s name.  Nevertheless, when men do so, they are accomplishing God’s will to destroy both them and the people to whom they minister—Jeremiah 27: 15  For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

THE KEEPER OF THE STOREHOUSE

Genesis 41: 39: And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. 41: And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph is a picture of Christ Jesus the GodMan who has the key to the storehouse of grace.

Christ is the Only Fit One

Joseph was the only fit person in all of Egypt to be over the storehouses. Pharaoh said, “there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:” (Gen 41: 38-39) Christ is the only fit one to be over the storehouse of grace.  God the Father chose his Son and entrusted the work of salvation into his hand because Christ is Discretion and Wisdom.  The Psalmist describes Christ, “A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.” (Ps 112: 5)  The new heavens and the new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness is created by Christ in his wisdom the same way Christ created the first heaven and earth. (Jer 10:12)  Just as God showed Joseph the famine before as yet it came to pass, before the foundation of the world, God showed Christ the famine of sin and depravity his people would fall into before it came to pass.  And Christ entered covenant with God becoming Surety for his people, knowing he would have to die that shameful death to save his people from sin, death and hell.  There was but one fit man in Egypt and there is but one fit Man by whom “many shall be made righteous.” (Rom 5: 19) “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Tim 2: 5)

God Has Given Christ All Authority

Pharaoh gave Joseph all authority. (Gen 41: 44, 44) God set his Son, Christ Jesus, over all. (Eph 1: 19-23) Christ Jesus is not only absolute sovereign God, he is absolute sovereign Man! (Mt 28: 18) The glorified GodMan “doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Dan 4: 5) This one who is absolutely sovereign has the names of his people engraved on the palms of his hands. (Is 49: 16) Therefore, no one can stop Christ from calling and saving all his people. (Jn 12: 32; 14: 3; 1 Pet 1: 3)

We Must Go to Christ

When the people cried for bread, “Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.” (Gen 41: 55) Sinner, if we would be saved from the starvation of sin, God says, “Go unto Christ; what he saith to you, do.”  What does Christ say do? “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.’ (Lu 13: 3, 5; Jn 6: 53) “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Mt 11: 28) Just as Joseph opened the storehouse and saved all who came to him, Christ shall open the storehouse and save all who come to him!
